Development Background:

 GB5009.34-2022 "Determination of Sulfur Dioxide in Food" New National Standard Issued, the Third Method Being: Ion Chromatography.

Method Principle:

Sulfur-containing substances in the sample are converted to sulfur dioxide by acid treatment, then carried by nitrogen-steam distillation, absorbed by hydrogen peroxide solution and oxidized to sulfuric acid, which is separated by ion chromatography and detected by conductivity detector, quantified by external standard method.


Operation Steps:

Weigh 10g of solid or semi-solid sample (accurate to 0.01g), place in round-bottom flask D in Figure B.1, add 50mL water, shake to disperse evenly; connect nitrogen protection, control flow rate at 1.0 L/min~2.0 L/min. Connect steam distillation flask A, absorption flask H (100mL Nessler tube) with 20mL 3% hydrogen peroxide solution (3.2.1) as absorbent, insert absorption tube below liquid surface. Quickly add 10mL hydrochloric acid solution (6mol/L) (3.2.2) along flask D wall, tightly seal, start distillation, maintain boiling in flask A and adjust heat to keep distillate flow rate at about 2mL/min. Distill until total liquid volume in flask H reaches about 95mL (time 30min~40min), rinse tail with water and transfer to 100mL volumetric flask, dilute to mark, shake, let stand 1h, filter through 0.45μm membrane to obtain test solution. Without sample, perform blank test same way.
