Recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued a new national standard for the determination of oil in water

[Introduction] After January 1, 2019, infrared oil detectors will still be used for oil detection in industrial wastewater and domestic sewage, while ultraviolet spectrophotometers will be used for cleaner water such as surface water, groundwater and seawater.

Since it was included in the plan in 2013, the revision of the oil in water standard has always attracted much attention. The methods that have been solicited for opinions include infrared spectrophotometry, ultraviolet spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectrophotometry and weight method. Recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment officially released two oil in water determination standards, one of which is infrared spectrophotometry and the other is ultraviolet spectrophotometry.

" Water quality - Determination of petroleum and animal and vegetable oils - Infrared spectrophotometry (HJ 637-2018 replacing HJ 637-2012).pdf " is the revised standard, the main revisions are:

The scope of application of the standard was changed from "surface water, groundwater, industrial wastewater and domestic sewage" to "industrial wastewater and domestic sewage"

Change the name of "Total Oil" to "Oil"

The extraction agent was changed from "carbon tetrachloride" to "perchloroethylene".icon_pdf.gif

Water quality-Determination of petroleum-based substances-Ultraviolet spectrophotometry (Trial) (HJ 970-2018).pdf is a new standard.

This standard is applicable to the determination of petroleum in surface water, groundwater and seawater. The extractant is n-hexane.

That is to say, after January 1, 2019, infrared oil detectors will still be used for oil detection in water of industrial wastewater and domestic sewage, while ultraviolet spectrophotometry instruments will be used for cleaner water such as surface water, groundwater and seawater.
